Alectinib

Alectinib is indicated for the treatment of patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Description

Alectinib belongs to second generation oral drug which selectively prohibits the  activity of  anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) tyrosine kinase. It is part used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) expressing the ALK-EML4 (echinoderm microtubule-associated
protein-like 4)
fusion protein that causes proliferation of NSCLC cells.

Alectinib Works as

It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI).Alectinib is a targeted therapy. TKI's block these cell signals and by blocking the signals,
they stop the growth of the cancer cells. TKI's are named based on the enzyme that they block.
Tyrosine kinases are specific enzymes (a type of protein)
that may signal cancer cells
to grow. Alectinib blocks the abnormal ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) protein.
